Fishing on Big Star Lake
Fishing is a beloved pastime for many on Big Star Lake. No Wake Hours from 7:30pm - 11:00am create quiet times to enjoy fishing without the heavy waves and activity of the daytime hours.
There are many types of fish in Big Star Lake, including:
- Bluegill
- Sunfish
- Pumpkinseed
- Largemouth Bass
- Smallmouth Bass
- Rock Bass
- Walleye
- Pike
- Crappie/Speck

The BSLA endorses following the Michigan DNR rules and regulations regarding fishing licenses, minimum/maximum daily count, and open season dates for each species. Please note that everyone 17 and older must have a valid fishing license to fish, even off a private dock.
The state of Michigan has two Free Fishing Weekend dates for 2025. They are February 15-16 and June 7-8. All fishing license fees will be waived for those two days. Opening day for bass fishing is Memorial Day weekend.
Good luck and enjoy your time on the lake!
