Mission
Our mission is to protect, preserve, and enhance the natural beauty and environmental health of Big Star Lake. We believe in fostering a sense of community and promoting responsible shared use of the lake's resources.
Goals
The goals of the Big Star Lake Association (BSLA) are multifaceted, reflecting a broad commitment to environmental conservation, community involvement, and sustainable development.
Environmental Stewardship
- Protecting Water Quality: The BSLA aims to prevent pollution and contamination of the lake by promoting best practices in waste management, runoff control, and the use of eco-friendly products. Regular monitoring of water quality is conducted to ensure the health of the lake's ecosystem.
- Invasive Species Management: The BSLA is actively involved in identifying, controlling, and eradicating invasive species that threaten the lake's natural habitat. This includes educational campaigns to inform the community about the dangers of invasive species and the steps they can take to prevent their spread.
- Watershed and surrounding environment: Efforts are made to protect and maintain the natural habitats around the lake, including wetlands, forests, and shorelines.

Member Engagement
- Educational Programs: The BSLA provides information and educational offerings to raise awareness about environmental issues and to promote sustainable practices among residents and visitors. These programs cover topics such as water conservation, wildlife protection and management, enhancing and maintaining water quality, safe boating practices and eco-friendly landscaping.
- Volunteer Opportunities: The BSLA provides numerous opportunities for community members to get involved in efforts to protect and enhance the lake. This includes clean-up days, tree planting events, and citizen science initiatives that encourage residents to contribute to the health of their environment.
- Community Events: The BSLA hosts social events, such as the Annual Road Run and Food Drive, Fishing Contest, 4th of July Fireworks, and Poker Run to strengthen the bonds among community members and to foster a collective sense of responsibility towards the lake.

Proactive Management
- Lake Management Plans: The BSLA develops and implements comprehensive lake management plans that address current and future challenges. These plans are based on scientific research and data analysis, and they are regularly updated to reflect changing conditions and new information.
- Advocacy and Policy: The BSLA advocates for policies and regulations that protect the lake and its surroundings. This includes working closely with Lake Township, and other local, state, and federal authorities to ensure that environmental laws are enforced and that the interests of the lake community are represented.
- Infrastructure Improvements: The BSLA supports and coordinates infrastructure projects that enhance the safety, accessibility, and sustainability of the lake area. This includes maintaining public access points and enhancing fishing resources.
